
Nationally Recognized Training, Delivered in Louisiana
The LEADer Master Practitioner Certificate Program provides a structured, nationally aligned pathway for economic development professionals to build core competencies, expand applied knowledge, and strengthen their impact across Louisiana.
Select LEAD courses within the program are accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and fulfill prerequisites for those pursuing the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation. Through LEAD’s partnership with IEDC, participants gain access to high-quality training delivered in Louisiana while advancing their professional development.
How the Program Works
To earn the LEADer Master Practitioner Certificate, participants must:

Complete four core courses and two elective courses

Complete all coursework within a five-year period

Have a minimum of two years of contiguous economic development experience

Submit a letter of recommendation from a supervisor or senior-level (10+ years) economic development professional

Submit a completed application and $150 application fee

What the Program Delivers
The LEADer Master Practitioner Certificate Program equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to succeed in economic development, including:

Important: The LEADer Master Practitioner Certificate is issued by LEAD and is not equivalent to the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation, which is awarded solely by IEDC. Completion of LEADer Master Practitioner coursework does not result in CEcD certification, but it serves as a stepping stone and provides a clear pathway towards earning the CEcD for those who choose to pursue this honorable credential.

A New Chapter in Professional Development
As of December 31, 2025, the Certified Louisiana Economic Developer (CLED) program formally concluded. In its place, LEAD has launched the LEADer Master Practitioner Certificate Program, a modern, forward-looking professional development pathway aligned with national standards and focused on best practices, real-world application, strategy, and leadership.
This transition reflects LEAD’s commitment to strengthening professional development, aligning with best practices, and supporting economic development professionals at every stage of their careers.

For Former CLED Participants
LEAD recognizes and values the accomplishment of all individuals who earned the CLED designation. This achievement remains part of LEAD’s official record and continues to reflect a meaningful investment in professional growth.

Is my CLED designation still valid?
Yes. The CLED designation remains a recognized professional achievement and part of LEAD’s official record.
Am I required to transition to the LEADer Master Practitioner Certification?
No. Participation is optional.
Are LEAD courses aligned with national standards?
Yes. Select LEAD courses are IEDC-accredited and aligned with nationally recognized competencies.
Do I have to take the courses in a specific order?
